RED RIBBON CLUB OF GOVERNMENT SPMR COLLEGE OF COMMERCE ORGANIZED A WEEK-LONG SERIES OF EVENTS TO MARK “WORLD AIDS DAY 2024,”
The Red Ribbon Club of Government SPMR College of Commerce organized a week-long series of events
to mark “World AIDS Day 2024,” embracing the theme “Take the rights path: My health, my right.”
The observance of World AIDS Day 2024 started on December 2nd with a Rangoli Making Competition.
Students showcased their artistic flair by creating vibrant designs that represented the ongoing battle
against HIV/AIDS. Ms. Anshu Kapoor of B.com Sem 1st bagged first prize in the competition whereas
Bhavdeep Kour of B.com sem 1st and Niharika Mehra of B.com sem 3rd secured second and third position
respectively.
A Reel Making Competition on social media platforms was conducted on 3rd of December 2024 where
students were challenged to create short, impactful videos aimed at educating viewers about HIV/AIDS.
The reels addressed various themes, such as prevention methods, myths and facts, and the significance of
early diagnosis. Ms. Taniya Sharma, Mr. Manjot Singh and Mr. Anish bagged 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes
respectively.
The Poster Making Competition was organized on 4th December 2024 in which Ms. Bhumi Malwal, Mr.
Gurmeet Singh and Neharika Singh secured first, second and third positions respectively. The posters made
by the participants conveyed powerful messages about safe practices and the importance of regular testing.
Similarly, on 5 th December 2024, Painting Competition was organized which aimed at raising awareness
and fostering dialogue about HIV/AIDS. About 10 students participated in the event in which Pragati
Kohli, Akshita Sher and Akhleash Singh bagged first, second and third positions respectively.
The activities were adjudged by Prof. Pawan Kumar Gupta, Prof. Ashu Manhas, Dr. Chetna Gupta, Dr.
Deepshikha Sharma and Prof Monika Mahajan.
On the final day, the Prize and Certificate Distribution Ceremony was held to honour the winners of the
different competitions organized in connection with World Aids Day 2024. Dr. Rajinder Singh, Principal
of the college, while speaking on the event elucidated about the theme of World Aids Day 2024 “Take the rights path: My health, my right”. He emphasized that there is need to raise awareness about prevention
strategies to achieve the goal of ending the epidemic by 2030. He highlighted further that strong will power
and good mental health is the tool to fight against this deadly disease that attacks immune system. Later, a
display of the artistic expressions of these participants was held at the auditorium of the college. The event
was attended by faculty members, students, and the organizing committee. The proceedings of valedictory
function was conducted by Dr. Roomi Rani and vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Binny Kumar. The
entire activities were conducted under the supervision of Dr. Jagmeet Kaur (Convener, Red Ribbon Club),
Dr. Deepak Pathania, Dr. Fayza, Dr. Madhu Bala, Prof. Binny Kumar, Dr. Roomi Rani and Mr. Ravi
Kumar (Physical Director).
