Guest Lecture by Mr Pankaj Sassan
On the occasion of culmination of Summer Internship, a guest lecture by Mr. Pankaj Sasan, Asst. Director, Industries and Commerce Jammu was organised by the Department of Economics under the aegis of IQAC. He spoke on the topic “Working of Small Scale Industries in J&K: Problems and Challenges”. Mr. Sasan appraised the students about the in-depth functioning of Industries, and the various facilities provided by the Govt. of UT of J&K. He said that to facilitate startups and new businesses, the Govt. provides incentives in the form of rebate in electricity bills, GST and ease of Land acquisition. He
encouraged the students to think in terms of becoming job providers rather than job seekers. Mr. Sasan also emphasised the importance of upskilling and re-skilling, and said that skill and knowledge are the most important assets that will help them create successful businesses. Speaking on the occasion Principal of the College Prof. (Dr.) Rajinder Singh advised students to pay
attention to market needs and search for unique innovative business ideas that may help them create the next big startup. He said that the values of hard work, dedication and consistency make a good idea great, and that implementation of well thought out ideas is the key to success in startups. In the Summer Internship Programme conducted by the Department of Economics in collaboration with SIDCO Jammu, three groups of fifty students each were given an opportunity to witness first hand the
structure and functioning of Industries in Jammu. Through visits to Industries and interaction with Industry professionals, students gathered first hand information about standard business practices. The Internship reports of the students were evaluated and viva was also conducted on the occasion. Earlier, the programme started with a welcome address by Prof. Ashraf Nawaz Convener IQAC, while formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Reena Rani, HOD Economics. The programme was compered
by Dr. Rajni Sharma. Dr. Mohd. Azam, HOD Urdu, was also present on the occasion.
