Painting Competition on Freedom Struggle held at Commerce College
NSS Units and Culture and Literary Committee of Govt. SPMR College of Commerce organised a painting competition as part of Independence Day Celebrations. The Painting Competition was held on the theme “Freedom Struggle” in which 30 students participated enthusiastically and creatively explored the rich tapestry of our nation's history. The competition aimed to honour and reflect upon the valour and sacrifices made during the struggle for independence. The theme provided a profound platform for artistic expression, enabling participants to interpret historical events and figures through their unique artistic lenses. The event featured an impressive array of paintings, each showcasing different facets of the struggle. From stirring depictions of key
historical figures to evocative portrayals of significant events, the artworks demonstrated a deep appreciation for the sacrifices and achievements of our forebears. In the competition, first position was bagged by Sugham Mehra of Semester 3, whereas second and third places went to Kamalpreet Kour and Tanishka Mehra, both from Semester 3. Speaking on the occasion, Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Rajinder Singh said that the Freedom
Struggle is an essential chapter of our history, and this competition was a fantastic way to engage students with it. He appreciated the artworks displayed by the students and said that they were both powerful and thought-provoking, capturing the spirit of resilience and unity that defined our journey to freedom. He also appreciated the efforts of the staff members who assisted in organising the event. Prof. Pawan Gupta (HOD Commerce) and Prof. Reena Rani (HOD Economics) acted as judges on the occasion. A Cleanliness drive was also conducted in the college by NSS Volunteers as a part of Swachhta Pakhwada.
Those present on the occasion included Prof. Ashraf Nawaz, Dr. Chetna Mahajan, Dr. Rekha Gupta, Dr. Roomi Rani, Prof. Shaji Khan and others. The entire programme was coordinated by NSS Programme Officers Dr. Deepshikha Sharma and Dr. Deepak Pathania.
